Move & migrate · Squarespace to WordPress

Squarespace to WordPress migration, including the parts the export leaves behind.

We use Squarespace’s WordPress export where it helps, rebuild the design and everything it misses, download your images before they disappear, and redirect every URL so search visibility carries across.

What Squarespace's export does and doesn't include

In short

A Squarespace to WordPress migration uses Squarespace’s built-in WordPress export for the content it covers, rebuilds the design and everything the export leaves out, downloads your images from Squarespace’s servers, and redirects every URL.

Squarespace provides an export in WordPress format, which is a genuine head start, but it’s partial. It covers some content types (typically pages, one blog, and basic text and image blocks) and doesn’t include your design, styles or many other content and block types. Squarespace’s own help documentation lists what’s included for your site’s version. We start by checking that list against your actual site, so the plan covers every gap.

Design: keep, refine or redesign

Squarespace templates are polished, and many owners want to keep the look. We rebuild it in WordPress, either as a lightweight custom theme or with the block editor, matching typography, spacing and layout, while making it faster and easier to extend. If you’ve outgrown the template, the move is a natural point to redesign instead.

Keep the look

Rebuild the current design closely, so returning visitors feel at home.

Refine it

Same brand, with improved layouts, speed and conversion paths.

Redesign

Use the move to start fresh, keeping only content and URLs that matter.

Before you close the account

Images and files

Exported content often still points to images on Squarespace’s content delivery network. Those links stop working when the Squarespace site is closed. We download every image and file (including PDFs stored under /s/ paths), optimise images for the web, upload them to WordPress, and update links throughout the content.

Squarespace Commerce to WooCommerce

Products can be exported from Squarespace as a CSV and imported into WooCommerce, with variants, prices, stock and images checked after import. Customer accounts and order history need separate handling and depend on what your plan allows. Shipping, tax, discount codes and checkout are rebuilt and tested with real carts.

Redirects for every URL

Squarespace URLs mapped to WordPress URLs
Squarespace URLs mapped to WordPress

Squarespace URLs (pages, blog posts, product pages under /shop/p/ or similar, and files under /s/) are collected from the sitemap, a crawl and Search Console, then redirected one-to-one with server-side 301s. If Squarespace already had redirects set up under URL Mappings, we carry those across too.

Forms, integrations and extras

Squarespace form blocks, newsletter blocks, scheduling and member areas don’t come across in the export. Each is rebuilt with a WordPress equivalent, or connected to the same external service you already use. We also check what else is connected to the site: email marketing, analytics, social feeds, booking tools, so nothing quietly stops working after the switch.

An example Squarespace migration

Illustrative scenario

A photographer's portfolio and blog

A photographer has a Squarespace site with gallery pages, a blog of around 80 posts, a contact form and a small print shop.

The WordPress export brings across pages and the blog; galleries need rebuilding, and every image is downloaded at full resolution from Squarespace’s CDN, optimised and served in modern formats. The design is rebuilt closely to keep the brand. Shop products move to WooCommerce via CSV. File links under /s/ and product URLs get redirects, along with existing URL Mappings. After launch, gallery pages load faster than before because images are properly sized for each screen.

Frequently asked questions

No. It’s a useful start for pages and one blog, but design, many block types, additional blogs, commerce and media hosting all need extra work.

If you want it to, yes. We can rebuild the design closely, refine it, or redesign it.

It can be transferred to another registrar or kept, with DNS pointed at the new hosting. Email records are copied first.

With full one-to-one redirects and carried-over content and metadata, rankings are usually protected. Some short-term movement is normal.

It depends on page count, design approach and features. You’ll get a timeline with the written scope.
